The U.S. State Department has published a list of its upcoming special passport acceptance fairs for eligible travelers hoping to quickly secure the document required to venture abroad.
It’s worth pointing out that these events are for first-time applicants and individuals under 16, with the vast majority of the events being held in New Jersey and requiring advance appointments.
“These events are for first-time customers and children who must apply in person using Form DS-11,” the State Department reminds travelers. “Adults who are eligible to renew a passport using Form DS-82 can submit the application online or by mail at any time.”
Applicants can still select from routine or expedited services. The former will take about four to six weeks on average, while expedited service—costing an additional $60—can produce a passport in as little as two to three weeks.
Where to Get Your US Passport in August 2025
Most of August’s remaining U.S. passport acceptance fairs take place in New Jersey at county clerk offices throughout the state, but events are also being held in nearby New York as well as other parts of the country, including Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Arizona in post offices, libraries and even on some college campuses.
These fairs range from two to five hours in length and some even allow walk-ins.

The State Department has more than two dozen U.S. passport acceptance fairs lined up for September, with most being hosted by the Passaic County Clerk in New Jersey at various locations.
However, travelers will also have opportunities in places like Los Angeles, California (Lomita), Houston, Texas (Beaumont), Newark, New Jersey and Scottsdale, Arizona, for example.
