Booking flights between the United States and Canada is getting a little more streamlined for American Airlines customers.
American just announced a new partnership with Canadian carrier Porter Airlines. Under the new agreement, travelers can now book codeshare flights on select routes with both airlines.
For now, American says it will place its code on certain Porter flights operated out of Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to other cities in Canada. From Toronto, travelers are now able to fly to five Canadian destinations through the codeshare agreement, including Edmonton (YEG), Halifax (YHZ), Ottawa (YOW), Victoria (YYJ), and Winnipeg (YWG).
Six additional Canadian airports will join the codeshare partnership in coming weeks. Among those additional destinations are: Calgary (YYC), Charlottetown (YYG), Kelowna (YLW), St. John’s (YYT), Saskatoon (YXE), and Vancouver (YVR).
In addition to the flights within Canada, American has also added its code to Porter’s flights from Toronto to Phoenix, Arizona (PHX). The carriers say that more transborder flights will launch under the agreement soon, as the partnership expands.
“Canada is one of the most popular destinations for travelers, and American is excited to partner with Porter Airlines to unlock more travel options for customers,” said Anmol Bhargava, American’s senior vice president of global alliances. “This partnership puts customers at the forefront, and we look forward to providing even more seamless transborder travel options together.”
Members of American’s AAdvantage loyalty program will also earn AAdvantage points and Loyalty Miles when purchasing Porter flights that fall under the codeshare agreement. The two airlines plan to expand the loyalty benefits of the partnership over the coming months.
On the other side of the agreement, Porter has placed its code on select flights from Canada to the U.S., including to American’s major hubs at Charlotte (CLT), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), and Philadelphia (PHL). In coming weeks, the Canadian airline will add its code to American flights from Canada to seven other U.S. airports, including Honolulu (HNL), Nashville (BNA), New Orleans (MSY), Portland (PDX), Sacramento (SMF), Salt Lake City (SLC), and San Jose (SJC).
“By initially combining Porter’s growing Canadian network with American’s extensive reach in the U.S. and southern destinations, we are offering improved connectivity in combination with Porter’s commitment to high-quality service,” said Edmond Eldebs, Porter Airlines’ senior vice president and chief commercial officer. “This is something that we are committed to growing with additional global routing options and future VIPorter loyalty integration.”
