The American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) has launched a new online tool for its travel advisor members to report and track delays in hotel commission payments.
Available via ASTA’s Commission Reporting Portal, the tool aims to collect and escalate advisor concerns directly with hotel partners to draw attention to commission payment issues that can disrupt cash flow, erode trust and add unnecessary administrative burdens for advisors, the organization says.
“To support our members, we’ve created this dedicated webpage and commission issue reporting tool. If more than 45 days have passed since your client completed their hotel stay and you still haven’t received your commission, use the form below to report the offending hotel,” the website reads.
“ASTA will follow up with the hotel through our business-to-business dispute resolution process to help facilitate the payment you are owed.”
ASTA won’t be able to engage properties that aren’t members, but encourages advisors to file a report regardless.
“ASTA will add the property to a watchlist of hotels that have been flagged for non-payment by our members. This list will be shared within the ASTA community to increase awareness and help other travel advisors make informed decisions about booking their clients with these properties,” says ASTA.
“Timely commission payments are not just a matter of fairness; they are essential to the financial health of travel agencies,” ASTA President and CEO Zane Kerby said in a statement.
“Travel advisors should not have to chase down payments for work already completed,” he added. “This tool brings accountability to the commission process, highlighting where delays are most common and giving ASTA the leverage to address them directly with hotels.”
“By shining a spotlight on this issue, ASTA is making clear that late payments are unacceptable and must be corrected if our industry is to thrive,” Kerby concluded.
Travel advisors can visit ASTA’s Commission Reporting Portal to access the new tool.
