Airline passengers will soon have a new option for flying from coast to coast in style, thanks to American Airlines newest aircraft.
The Dallas-based carrier said on Thursday it plans to roll out its Flagship suites product aboard the new Airbus A321XLR aircraft that will begin flying between New York and Los Angeles in December.
When the new aircraft launches, it will also be the first time the airline debuts its new business class suites on a domestic route.
The suites are a major upgrade compared to American’s old business class product and feature perks like sliding privacy doors, lie-flat beds, multi-course meals, and premium amenity kits.
The airline’s brand-new A321XLR plane, which is fresh off the Airbus assembly line in Germany and was delivered to American on October 22, will have 20 Flagship suites situated in a 1-1 layout across the single-aisle jet. Elsewhere, the plane will offer 12 premium economy seats and 123 seats in regular economy.
Notably, American will be the first U.S. carrier to operate the A321XLR, which began flying in late 2024 with European carriers like Iberia and Aer Lingus.
“Designed for long journeys with comfort and style at the forefront, American is thrilled to be the first U.S. airline to operate the A321XLR,” said Heather Garboden, American’s chief customer officer. “Whether customers are traveling from coast to coast or across the ocean, American’s newest aircraft demonstrates our commitment to providing a premium travel experience.”
Tickets are now on sale for the plane’s inaugural flight, which is scheduled as American Airlines flight 3 on December 18 from New York JFK to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The Flagship suites first launched in June on the carrier’s widebody Boeing 787-9 planes, which operate long-haul international routes. American began deploying the upgraded business class cabin on Europe-bound routes, including Chicago and Philadelphia to London, and Philadelphia to Zurich. The carrier is also expanding the suites to additional regions starting this fall, including from Dallas to Brisbane, Australia; Auckland, New Zealand; and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
