Intrepid Travel’s latest Active-ism departure, a five-day hiking experience in Yosemite National Park hosted by environmentalist and drag queen Pattie Gonia sold out in just minutes of going live, highlighting the need for more outdoor, hiking-focused travel experiences with purpose.
The trip departs in May of this year and also experienced incredible traction online, reaching 43,000 Instagram users within the first hour. The itinerary will take travelers through Yosemite, guided by Pattie Gonia, and include classic hikes with conversations on topics from conversation to Native American heritage, history and more.
“There’s never been a more important time in American history to protect our national parks and bring as many advocates into the fold as possible. That especially includes our BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities. Outdoor spaces are for everyone,” said Pattie Gonia, Intrepid Travel Ambassador. “I’m proud to see brands like Intrepid stepping up and using their privilege to support that and I’m proud to be in partnership with Intrepid. We need more of this in 2026.”
Ten lucky individuals were chosen at random to take the trip.
Intrepid launched its Active-ism trips last year in an effort to directly support the National Parks of the United States during historic funding cuts. It also donated $50,000 to relevant NGOs committed to the parks’ conservation. They have since increased that commitment to $100,000.
“As a purpose-driven company, we recognize the role that tourism can play in supporting protected areas,” said Leigh Barnes, President of the Americas at Intrepid Travel. “With these Active-ism trips, we hope to raise awareness and foster discussion around the challenges facing U.S. national parks, while empowering travelers to advocate on their behalf and have the trip of a lifetime.”
