Alaska Airlines Is Bringing Touchless ID Screening to These Cities

This summer, Alaska Airlines passengers can speed through security at some of the airline’s largest hub airports.

Alaska is expanding its Touchless ID screening at TSA PreCheck lines across three of its major airports. The program allows fliers with TSA PreCheck to opt into an even faster line that allows travelers to verify their identity with a facial scan instead of showing a physical ID. The technology allows fliers to seamlessly pass through the kiosk and into the security scanning area in just a moment or two.

Alaska Airlines says it will launch Touchless ID at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) on June 26, followed by Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on July 8, and Portland International Airport (PDX) on July 10.

“Using Touchless ID is going to be a gamechanger for our guests as they navigate our hub airports,” said Charu Jain, Alaska Airlines’ senior vice president of innovation and merchandising. “No longer needing to juggle a boarding pass and physical ID means our guests can breeze through security with just their face.”

Alaska Airlines has already launched Touchless ID at two airports: Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) and Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. (DCA).

To be eligible for the program, passengers must have a known traveler number (KTN) with either TSA PreCheck or Global Entry. To opt into Touchless ID, passengers must sign up using their account with Mileage Plan, Alaska’s loyalty program. First, fliers must add their TSA PreCheck KTN and passport information to the travel documents section of their Mileage Plan profile, and then they’ll be able to opt in to Touchless ID.

Travelers will see a Touchless ID icon on their boarding pass whenever they travel through an eligible airport.

Touchless ID is a program run by TSA in partnership with United States airlines, and it has been rapidly expanding at airlines’ key airports across the U.S. In addition to Alaska Airlines, the program is being expanded in partnership with United, American Airlines, and Delta.
