Flying through one of Europe’s busiest airports will be a bit more glamorous next year, thanks to American Express.
The credit card company announced that next year, it will open a new Centurion Lounge at Amsterdam Schiphol International Airport (AMS), which is Europe’s fourth busiest hub. The new Centurion location will be Schiphol’s first-ever proprietary airport lounge from a credit card company.
Measuring nearly 6,000 square feet, the new space will strive to evoke a feeling of “gezellig,” the Dutch word for a comforting and convivial atmosphere. Amenities will include a coffee bar, floor-to-ceiling windows, and food and drink menus inspired by local cuisine. The lounge’s design will also be Dutch-inspired, with a palette of blues, greens, and earth tones to reflect the city’s famous waterways.
“With a large number of American Express Card Members traveling through Schiphol each year, the new Centurion Lounge will be an important addition to our growing global Centurion Lounge Network,” said Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel. “We know travelers are looking for authentic, local experiences when they travel, and the new Centurion Lounge will deliver a premium experience and amenities with a taste of Dutch history and culture.”
Centurion Lounges are beloved by frequent fliers for their upscale atmosphere, design, and amenities, which usually includes shower suites as well as gourmet food and drinks. There are currently 29 Centurion lounges around the world, with several more slated to open soon at Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND), Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). However, access to the network of lounges is fairly limited. Only travelers with specific American Express credit cards are granted entry, including the Platinum card, the Delta SkyMiles Reserve, and the Centurion card.
The Amsterdam Centurion Lounge will be located between Concourses E and F.
