Dating app Bumble announced on Wednesday that it’s laying off 30% of its workforce, impacting around 240 positions. The company said in a securities filing that the cuts are part of its plans to realign its “operating structure to optimize execution on its strategic priorities.” Bumble anticipates saving $40 million per year as a result of the workforce reduction and plans to reinvest most of this money into product and technology development. AI-native startups are rewriting the rules of what early traction looks like — and too often, investors are still playing by the old ones. MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A unanimous Wisconsin Supreme Court handed a victory to the Republican-controlled Legislature on Wednesday in a power struggle with Democratic Gov. Tony Evers, reining in the governor’s expansive veto powers. The court, in a ruling where the four liberal justices joined with three conservatives, struck down Evers’ partial veto of a Republican bill in a case that tested both the limits of his veto powers and the Legislature’s ability to exert influence by controlling funding. The court also ruled that the Legislature can put money for certain state programs into an emergency fund under the control of its…
Police fire teargas and water cannon at protesters in Kenya as thousands take to the streets
Nairobi, Kenya CNN — Kenyan police have fired teargas and water cannon to disperse protesters as thousands took to the streets to mark the one-year anniversary of anti-government demonstrations that left dozens dead. The government regulator, the Communications Authority of Kenya, has ordered all television and radio stations in the country to stop broadcasting live coverage of protests of the youth-led march, which began Wednesday. The government agency falsely claimed that live coverage of the demonstrations violated Kenyan laws, while threatening regulatory action for non-compliance with the directive. Many of the stations did not immediately cease broadcasting, including CNN affiliate…
