Google introduced its AI mode, a Q&A-style search tool, to users in India today. The company said that this tool is still in the experimental stage and users will need to opt in to it through Search Labs. Once a user has opted in, they can ask queries in English. Google didn’t specify whether it plans to support local languages or when that might be available. Users can search for answers to complex, multi-part queries such as “My kids are 4 and 7 and have lots of energy. Suggest creative ways to get them active and moving indoors, especially on…
Federal prosecutors in New York are expected to rest their case Tuesday against Sean “Diddy” Combs, while the music mogul’s defense team intends to offer no witnesses of its own, bringing the sprawling racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking trial to an end sooner than expected. That Combs’ defense team would decide to call no one was unexpected but far from unusual, legal experts say.“It’s more likely than not at a trial that the defense is not going to call any witnesses,” said Mitchell Epner, a former federal prosecutor for the District of New Jersey who now practices criminal defense in New…
In Porto, locals celebrate the summer and patron saint John the Baptist with plastic hammers
PORTO, Portugal (AP) — On Porto’s steep streets, several thousands of people celebrated the summer in the way the city has been doing it for decades and centuries: by bonking friends and strangers alike with toy hammers and reveling in the streets all night. A Christian holiday with pagan roots, the eve of the feast of St. John the Baptist — Porto’s patron saint — is celebrated with fireworks, balloons and lots of grilled sardines. An older St. John’s Eve ritual in Portugal’s second-biggest city involved buying leek flowers believed to bring good fortune and inviting strangers to sniff the…

Iranian retaliation, a sudden ceasefire, and lingering nuclear questions: Wild swings in the Middle East
CNN — In the past 48 hours, the Middle East has witnessed an unprecedented US airstrike on Iran with its most powerful non-nuclear weapons, an Iranian retaliatory strike on the largest US air base in the region, to an apparent truce that will see Iran and Israel end their hostilities that have set the world on edge. The region and the wider world watched warily as events unfolded overnight into Tuesday, but with a degree of hope as daylight broke in the region that what US President Donald Trump called the “12 Day War” may be over. “THE CEASEFIRE IS…
