The U.S. is far ahead of Europe in the race for large AI models — but the picture is different for the application layer, with emerging category leaders such as Lovable and Synthesia. That’s the conclusion made by global VC firm Accel in its 2025 Globalscape report, which focuses on the AI and cloud market. Surprisingly, cloud and AI applications in Europe and Israel have attracted 66% as much private funding as their American peers in 2025 so far. “When we started this report 10 years ago, Europe was one tenth of the U.S.,” Accel partner Philippe Botteri told TechCrunch.…
There’s a moment backstage at Web Summit when a member of the production crew — easily twice the size of Laurent Mekies — wraps a beefy arm around the Oracle Red Bull Racing CEO’s shoulder and steers him toward the soundboard to retrieve his phone for a selfie. Most executives leading 2,000-person organizations would bristle at the informality, even from a superfan. Mekies instead smiles, his demeanor unchanged as he accommodates the starstruck crew member. It’s a small moment but perhaps a revealing one about Mekies who, just four months ago, became only the second person to lead Red Bull…

For all their pitches promising something new, AI startups share many of the same questions as startups in years past: How do they know when they’ve achieved the holy grail of product-market fit? Product-market fit has been studied extensively over the years; entire books have been written about how to master the art. But as with so many things, AI is upending established practices. “Honestly, it just could not be more different from all the playbooks that we’ve all been taught in tech in the past,” Ann Bordetsky, a partner at New Enterprise Associates, told a standing room-only crowd at…
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Three paintings from famously chill public television legend Bob Ross sold Tuesday for more than $600,000 at auction. The paintings were the first of 30 Ross works being sold to benefit public TV stations hurt by cuts in federal funding. At the live auction at Bonhams in Los Angeles, a serene, snow vista called “Winter’s Peace” that Ross painted entirely during a 1993 episode of “The Joy of Painting” went for $318,000 to a bidder on the phone. “For a good cause — and you get the painting,” auctioneer Aaron Bastian said during the bidding. He…

In 2023, after nearly three decades as CEO of the company he founded, Robert LoCascio stepped down as CEO of LivePerson, the public firm credited with pioneering web chat in 1997. Generative AI advances inspired his next project, which he calls “the highest bar” for the technology: replicating human beings with their life stories and personality. In 2024, he founded and self-funded, Eternos, a legacy service that allows people to preserve their voice and stories for loved ones after they pass away. Now, it’s got a new name and modified mission. The startup gained significant media attention after its first…
Chess’s international governing body said Tuesday that it filed a complaint against former World Chess Champion Vladimir Kramnik after he leveled unproven allegations of cheating against fellow players, including Daniel Naroditsky, who died last month at age 29. Naroditsky’s cause of death has not been made public.Kramnik accused Naroditsky, an American grandmaster of cheating last year and continued to share suspicions on social media. by Lacey Pfalz Last updated: 11:15 AM ET, Tue November 11, 2025 Bookings for buses and trains during the Thanksgiving holiday are already outpacing last year’s demand as travelers are increasingly opting for alternative travel methods amid thousands of flight cancellations and delays during the government shutdown. According to Reuters, air travel might still struggle for weeks even after the government shutdown ends. Thousands of flights have been canceled daily since the reduction plan began on November 8. Cancellations will grow to 6 percent on November 11 and will increase to 10 percent by November 14. Travel search engine Wanderu found…
