by Mia Taylor Last updated: 3:15 PM ET, Tue September 23, 2025 Perhaps it was budget concerns or maybe it was the shifting political landscape in the United States, but a new report shows that Americans largely stayed close to home this summer, rather than globetrotting.Just 28 percent of Americans traveled abroad for summer 2025, compared with nearly 39 percent of Canadians, according to the Summer 2025 Travel & Connectivity Report from Holafly, an eSim provider. Analysts think the cautiousness among Americans was likely due to economic worries and election-year uncertainty, factors that were not weighing down the more confident…
This is not California state senator Scott Wiener’s first attempt at addressing the dangers of AI. In 2024, Silicon Valley mounted a fierce campaign against his controversial AI safety bill, SB 1047, which would have made tech companies liable for the potential harms of their AI systems. Tech leaders warned that it would stifle America’s AI boom. Governor Gavin Newsom ultimately vetoed the bill, echoing similar concerns, and a popular AI hacker house promptly threw an “SB 1047 Veto Party.” One attendee told me, “Thank god, AI is still legal.” Now Wiener has returned with a new AI safety bill,…
TORONTO (AP) — There are 70-year-olds who want to be like June Squibb when they grow up.Squibb, 95, wasn’t the lead of a movie until she was 94. Now, a year after she turned action star in “Thelma,” Squibb is again the leading lady and face on the poster again, for “Eleanor the Great,” Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut. With it, Squibb is proving, again, that Hollywood stardom needn’t belong to the young.“I think a lot of that is because I never stopped,” Squibb says with a chuckle. “And it never occurred to me at 90 that I was supposed to…
Seasonal hiring in the retail industry is poised to fall to its lowest level since the 2009 recession, an early warning sign that the holiday shopping season could be softer than expected, job placement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas said in a Wednesday report. Challenger is projecting retailers may add under 500,000 positions in the final three months of 2025, marking the smallest seasonal gain in 16 years and an 8% decline from the year-ago period. “Seasonal employers are facing a confluence of factors this year: tariffs loom, inflationary pressures linger, and many companies continue to rely on automation and permanent staff…
by Mia Taylor Last updated: 5:00 PM ET, Tue September 23, 2025 After years of reports about the importance of protecting local communities and the planet when traveling, it seems responsible travel may finally be emerging from its ‘niche’ status and becoming the baseline for globetrotters.A significant 96 percent of global travelers now say responsible tourism is important to them. Moreover, they want their trips to tangibly uplift people and places—rather than just simply avoiding harm, according to a newly released Responsible Tourism Impact Report published by the Aruba Tourism Authority.“Our research showed us that responsible tourism is no longer…
Google Search is bringing its AI Mode feature — its AI-powered search experience — to Spanish-speaking users, the company announced on Tuesday. This expansion will introduce Google’s conversational search interface to a broader market, allowing users to ask questions using natural language queries, engage in back-and-forth conversations, upload images, dig deeper on complex topics, and more. The Spanish-language rollout comes on the heels of Google’s major AI Mode expansion in August, when the company released the feature to 180 more countries worldwide. Previously, it had only been available in the U.S., U.K., and India. During that August rollout, Google also…
Fear is not something one typically associates with Dwayne Johnson. Certainly not in the ring, as the charismatic heel with the cocked eyebrow, and not in Hollywood, where he has cemented himself as one of the industry’s most bankable, and singular, action stars and producers.By all accounts the formula was working. Yet for years he’d had a suspicion that he could do more, offer more, as an actor. But when it came time to dive into something more raw, more vulnerable for “The Smashing Machine,” a drama about MMA fighter Mark Kerr that he’d been thinking about for over a…
Ford-150 pickup trucks are displayed for sale at a dealership on March 24, 2025 in Austin, Texas. Brandon Bell | Getty ImagesDETROIT — Ford Motor is trying to boost sales of its crucial F-150 pickup truck before the end of the third quarter by offering special financing to consumers with less-than-perfect credit ratings. The move includes offering consumers with subprime credit — those with a FICO score below 620 — lower interest rates that are typically offered to those with quality scores, the automaker’s Ford Credit financial arm confirmed Wednesday.Such promotions aren’t unprecedented and are an effort to make vehicles more affordable…

Is the grass greener on the other side? We’re not sure, but the sky is most certainly bluer. It’s been over two years since Elon Musk purchased Twitter, now X, leading people to set up shop on alternative platforms. Mastodon, Post, Pebble (two of which have already shuttered operations) and Spill have been presented as potential replacements, but few aside from Meta’s Threads have achieved the speed of growth Bluesky has reached. As of February 2025, Bluesky has surpassed 30 million users. Its growth stems from several policy changes at X, including a heavily criticized change to the block feature…
