Kayak co-founder Paul English is back with a new venture—this time, he’s taking on Calendly. The entrepreneur has launched Supercal, a free scheduling platform that’s designed to make booking meetings more efficient and simple. Supercal was born out of English’s personal experience with the challenges of booking meetings. As a member of eight boards of directors, English says he and others often struggled to coordinate schedules. He then set out to create an email system for booking group meetings and to challenge Calendly by building a similar tool that offered similar functionality, but for free. “Instead of having the limited…

NEW YORK (AP) — There are certain hallmarks of every Tory Burch fashion show — a spectacular venue, relaxed American sportswear, and a message of female empowerment — and the designer’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection at New York Fashion Week delivered all three.Burch’s consistent desire to celebrate New York City fuels her motivation to find its hidden gems and landmarks to set the stage for her shows. Monday night’s presentation was at an old bank in Brooklyn, which looked more like a giant church than a former financial institution. Marble floors and extremely high vaulted ceilings created a dramatic backdrop, and…

Y Combinator-alum Rulebase is betting that the next wave of automation in financial services won’t be about flashy AI interfaces, but the unglamorous back-office tasks like compliance. The startup, founded in 2024 by Gideon Ebose and Chidi Williams, two Nigerian engineers who met in London, just raised a $2.1 million pre-seed round led by Bowery Capital, with participation from Y Combinator, Commerce Ventures, Transpose Platform VC, alongside several angels. Financial services firms spend enormous amounts of effort on support tickets, resolving disputes, ensuring quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. Rulebase’s software, which it calls an agent coworker, replaces much of the…
NEW YORK (AP) — John Lithgow is returning to Broadway in a play that might change the way we read bedtime stories to our kids. The two-time Tony Award-winner will star as Roald Dahl in “Giant,” which explores accusations of antisemitism against the beloved writer of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” Matilda” and “James and the Giant Peach.”“You go back and read his writing after seeing the play and you see dark strains in it, which you knew were there,” says Lithgow. “But you suddenly see it in a different light when you see this play.”“Giant,” by director-turned-playwright Mark Rosenblatt, won…

While many robotics companies are building human-sized robots, or working to automate entire factories, MicroFactory is instead trying to think big by building small. San Francisco-based MicroFactory built a general-purpose, tabletop manufacturing kit that’s about the size of my Siberian Husky’s dog crate. This compact factory includes two robotic arms and can be trained by human demonstration, as well as through AI. “General purpose robots are good, but it’s not necessary [to] be humanoid,” said Igor Kulakov, the co-founder and CEO of MicroFactory, in an interview with TechCrunch. “We decided to design robots from scratch that will still be general…
DAHME, Germany (AP) — Axel Kramer knows exactly where to find amber. He walks down the boardwalk of the village of Dahme on the German Baltic coast, checks the wind and the surf, looks at the different kinds of mussels and algae that have been washed up, and points to a small bulge on the beach.Eagerly, a dozen people who have been following his every move, jump down to the waterline, pull up seagrass and kelp, and, indeed, after a few moments one of them triumphantly holds up a little piece of shiny, honey-colored amber.“Unbelievable. I’m 57 now and grew up…
