Like many startups, climate tech companies often face a “valley of death” that lies between early-stage funding and growth capital that helps proven technologies reach commercial scale. But because climate tech startups are often hardware focused — physical problems tend to require physical solutions, after all — this valley of death tends to be a lot wider. Financing a first-of-a-kind power plant or factory can cost tens or hundreds of millions of dollars. Now a new fund hopes to bridge this financing gap, also known as the “missing middle.” Called the All Aboard Coalition, it aims to raise $300 million by October…
Members of Southwest Airlines’ Rapid Rewards loyalty program are getting access to a brand new onboard perk this fall. The budget carrier just announced it will be partnering with T-Mobile to roll out free in-flight Wi-Fi for Rapids Rewards members on all of its planes, starting in October. Southwest has a fleet of more than 800 planes, so when the new Wi-Fi launches, it will become the largest carrier in the United States to offer free connectivity on every flight. The airline says it has recently been testing free Wi-Fi across its fleet, and the pilot program received strong customer satisfaction…
Mark Zuckerberg, a bankruptcy lawyer from Indiana, has filed a lawsuit against Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta. Mark Zuckerberg the lawyer uses a commercial Facebook page to advertise his legal practice and communicate with potential clients. But his page has been disabled five times in the last eight years, since Meta’s moderation systems flag his account as falsely impersonating Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of the platform. In his legal complaint, Mark Zuckerberg points out that he has been practicing law since Mark Zuckerberg was just three years…
James Sweeney never had a twin, though he wanted one. The filmmaker grew up a military brat, and says he dreamed of a having a twin that would serve as a kind of built-in best friend. Alas, he was twinless.Of course, not all twins remain or ever become best friends, which is one of the painful truths we encounter in “Twinless,” the audacious film that has resulted from Sweeney’s persistent fascination with twindom. But Sweeney’s provocative work — in which he stars as well as writes, directs and produces — swings much wider. From the very specific vantage point of twindom,…

Technically, the poke never really left Facebook. The classic feature from Facebook’s early days lets users get a friend’s attention with a virtual nudge of sorts. While the poke fell out of use ages ago, the company has more recently seen an uptick in its use among younger users, which has now prompted it to make the poke a more central part of the Facebook experience. Now users are able to poke their friends from a new, dedicated button directly on their Facebook profile, which will alert the poke’s recipient through their notifications. In addition, Facebook users can see who…

BOHEMIA, N.Y. (AP) — A school district in New York City’s suburbs agreed this week to change its “Thunderbirds” nickname to simply the “T-Birds” in order to comply with the state’s mandate to retire all Native American sports names and mascots.According to the deal, Connetquot Central School District on Long Island would be allowed to continue using imagery such as an eagle, thunderbolt or lightning bolt, so long as it can attest the “T-Birds” moniker has “never been associated with any Indigenous imagery of any kind.”But Native American advocates complain the proposed name change still falls short of the spirit…
