Therapy chatbots powered by large language models may stigmatize users with mental health conditions and otherwise respond inappropriately or even dangerously, according to researchers at Stanford University. While recent coverage in The New York Times and elsewhere has highlighted the role that ChatGPT may play in reinforcing delusional or conspiratorial thinking, a new paper titled “Expressing stigma and inappropriate responses prevents LLMs from safely replacing mental health providers” examines five chatbots that designed to provide accessible therapy, assessing them based on guidelines around what makes a good human therapist. The paper will be presented at the ACM Conference on Fairness,…
Travelers can expect car rental rates to inch upward over the next year, though prices are largely stabilizing after years of disruption, according to American Express Global Business Travel’s (Amex GBT) newly released Ground Monitor 2025-26 report. The annual forecast from Amex GBT, a major player in travel and expense management, projects that global car rental prices will stay relatively steady, with modest increases that generally align with inflation in most regions. After a turbulent stretch, global rental car prices began to level out last year as supply caught up with demand and earlier supply chain disruptions eased. Still, the report…
CNN — Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, a former military general who campaigned on rooting out government corruption, has died at age 82, the presidential press office said in a statement on Sunday. Nigeria’s current president Bola Ahmed Tinubu offered his condolences to Buhari’s wife and ordered his vice president to travel to the UK to accompany Buhari’s body back to Nigeria. The British Business Bank, owned by the UK government, is creating a £500 million (around $674 million) economic package to help support diverse and underrepresented fund managers and founders in the country. CNN — Several children were killed in an Israeli airstrike at a water distribution point in central Gaza Sunday, health officials said, one of several deadly incidents in the territory that come as ceasefire talks in Doha falter.
