TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 lands in San Francisco from October 27-29, and the Expo Hall is already packed with early adopters, startup scouts, and enterprise buyers looking to discover what’s next. If you’re not there to show off your product, your competitors will be — and they’ll be closing deals that could’ve been yours. There’s still time to book your exhibit table, but space is disappearing fast. The brands that move now will be the ones getting the face time, the leads, and the traction that matters most. This isn’t an opportunity to sit on. Time is ticking, tables are booking,…
Meta rolls out AI-powered translations to creators globally, starting with English and Spanish
Meta is rolling out an AI-powered voice translation feature to all users on Facebook and Instagram globally, the company announced on Tuesday. The new feature, which is available in any market where Meta AI is available, allows creators to translate content into other languages so it can be viewed by a broader audience. The feature was first announced at Meta’s Connect developer conference last year, where the company said it would pilot test automatic translations of creators’ voices in reels across both Facebook and Instagram. Meta notes that the AI translations will use the sound and tone of the creator’s…
Facebook Tweet Email Link US President Donald Trump has ditched his call for a ceasefire in Ukraine, backing instead Russian President Vladimir Putin’s push for a permanent peace agreement. That has not stopped some European leaders from pushing for a temporary truce first, even though the US president has seemingly decided one is not necessary. It’s not that Kyiv and its allies don’t want peace. But they understand that the kind of deal sought by Russia can’t happen unless the most basic principle underpinning the global order – that a country cannot get what it wants by force – is…

Databricks is in the process of closing a fresh round at a $100 billion valuation, sources confirmed to TechCrunch. The round was originally reported by the Wall Street Journal. A source familiar with the deal tells TechCrunch exclusively that the new round is about $1 billion and was wildly oversubscribed. Databricks, best known for its data analytics products, refrained from selling even more equity because it didn’t need cash for operations after its once record-breaking $10 billion raise at a $62 billion valuation in January, according to the source. (OpenAI has since squashed the record with a $40 billion raise in…
Facebook Tweet Email Link Rapid City, South Dakota (CNN) —Nestled in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Rapid City is a scenic urban getaway that hasn’t lost its small-town vibe. While it’s the state’s second largest city, visitors can explore its greenway, museums, art and history, or indulge in craft beer and increasingly diverse dishes — all within a few minutes’ drive, walk or bicycle ride. And the surrounding landscape is home to enough natural and manmade wonders — from the Badlands to the Crazy Horse Memorial — to keep you busy for a week or more. Rapid City promotes…
The U.S. State Department has published a list of its upcoming special passport acceptance fairs for eligible travelers hoping to quickly secure the document required to venture abroad. It’s worth pointing out that these events are for first-time applicants and individuals under 16, with the vast majority of the events being held in New Jersey and requiring advance appointments. “These events are for first-time customers and children who must apply in person using Form DS-11,” the State Department reminds travelers. “Adults who are eligible to renew a passport using Form DS-82 can submit the application online or by mail at any…
From no-code to AI-assisted dev environments, “vibe coding” is changing how early-stage startups build — and who they need to hire. The once-standard idea of landing a “10x engineer” as your first critical hire is getting a serious reality check at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025, taking place October 27-29 at San Francisco’s Moscone West. Vibe coding: Hype or new reality? Join Lauri Moore, partner at Bessemer Venture Partners, and David Cramer, co-founder and chief product officer at Sentry, on the Builders Stage for a candid conversation about how developer tools are reshaping early product development. Moore brings deep expertise in AI,…
Facebook Tweet Email Link Tel Aviv, Israel — Eliya Cohen is a survivor who can’t yet bring himself to live again. He hid under bodies as Hamas militants hurled grenades into a bomb shelter before they took him prisoner. He lived through 505 days of captivity in Gaza, chained and sharing scraps of pita and canned beans with other hostages. And he was released to his joyful family – and to find his girlfriend alive and waiting for him. But six months after he got out of Gaza, he says he cannot begin to recover. Not while other hostages are…
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A dozen recently shuttered newspapers across Wyoming and South Dakota are set to publish again, after buyers stepped up within days to prevent the rural communities from becoming “news deserts” where little or no local media remains. The swift rescues stand out in an industry where roughly two and a half newspapers disappear each week, according to a 2024 report from the Medill School of Journalism. The editor at one revived paper said his new owner saw ongoing profitability, while other outlets will be grabbed by publishers motivated by a sense of civic duty.“It’s a little…
