AI data platform iMerit believes the next step toward integrating AI tools at the enterprise level is not more data, but better data. And better data doesn’t come from hordes of gig workers, but from experts across mathematics, medicine, healthcare, finance, autonomy, and other cognitive fields, the company says. “What’s become exceedingly important is the ability to attract and retain the best cognitive experts, because we have to take these large models and make them very customized towards solving enterprise AI problems,” Radha Basu, CEO and founder of iMerit, told TechCrunch. The California- and India-based startup has for the past…
CNN — US President Donald Trump praised Liberian President Joseph Boakai for his strong grasp of the English language on Wednesday. But the African leader was educated in Liberia, where English is the official language. As he hosted five African leaders at the White House, Trump asked Boakai: “Such good English, it’s beautiful. Where did you learn to speak so beautifully?” Boakai informed Trump of his place of education, prompting Trump to express his curiosity. “That’s very interesting,” he said, “I have people at this table who can’t speak nearly as well.” Liberia was founded in 1822 by the American…
East Coast travelers looking for a tropical getaway will have more options this fall. United Airlines is expanding its nonstop flights to the Caribbean island of Dominica from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Starting October 29, the airline will add a second weekly nonstop flight from Newark to Dominica’s Douglas-Charles Airport (DOM) that will operate on Wednesdays. The new Wednesday flight is in addition to United’s existing Saturday service, which launched in February 2025. The two flights will give travelers more flexibility, as visitors can now choose to stay for as little as three days or for one week or more.”The…

Movie Review: War, through one child’s extraordinary eyes, in ‘Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight’
“Are we racists?” That’s the blunt question posed by Bobo, a white girl living on a farm in Africa, to her horrified (and defensive) mother. There are so many ways this three-word line reading could land wrongly — or just seem forced or mannered. But it feels thoroughly organic when voiced by Lexi Venter, an extraordinary first-time actor who gives, at age 7, one of the more compelling child performances in recent memory in “Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight.”It’s a performance that was seeded, watered and nurtured by Embeth Davidtz, an extraordinary actor herself who wrote, directed and stars…

AI-powered coding tools like Cursor, Replit, Claude Code, and Lovable are helping developers write many lines of code every day to ship products faster. However, app makers still have to rely on either shipping full beta versions of their apps or using simulation software to gauge how upcoming features will work. Blok, a company that is coming out of stealth, allows developers to use AI to simulate different user personas to test an app’s features and learn how to make their apps better. The company was founded by Tom Charman and Olivia Higgs in 2024. Both have been serial entrepreneurs…
Does Russia’s President Vladimir Putin hit back when US President Donald Trump criticizes his ‘bullsh*t?’
CNN — Is there a direct link between what US President Donald Trump says and what Russian President Vladimir Putin does? Certainly, the harsh words and bitter violence of recent days in Ukraine suggest the answer is maybe. First, President Trump vented his frustrations at the lack of commitment from his Russian counterpart to engage in a serious peace process. “We get a lot of bullshit thrown at us by Putin, if you want to know the truth,” Trump blustered in a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday. “He’s very nice all of the time, but it turns out to be meaningless,”…

The rules of growth have changed. At TechCrunch Disrupt 2025, happening October 27-29 at Moscone West in San Francisco, 10,000+ startup and VC leaders will gather to explore how founders are adapting in a market that looks nothing like it did five years ago. And on October 27, on the premier industry stage Going Public, David George of Andreessen Horowitz will take the mic for a fireside chat focused on one of the biggest questions facing founders today — how do you scale and succeed when the old rules no longer apply? What happens when your company stays private longer? Startups…
