MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — Teachers at nine high schools in northeastern Australia discovered days before an ancient history exam that they had mistakenly taught their students about the wrong Roman ruler — Augustus Caesar instead of his predecessor, Julius Caesar. The students in Queensland ended up being exempt from the statewide exam on Wednesday while Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said he would investigate the mix-up, describing the experience for the students as “extremely traumatic.”Since the error in the curriculum was discovered on Monday, schools applied — and were granted — an exemption from the exam for their students, even as…

Mazama Energy said today that it had drilled a well in Oregon that reached 629˚ F (331˚ C) at the bottom of the borehole. Vinod Khosla, whose firm Khosla Ventures incubated the company, mentioned the milestone on stage today at TechCrunch Disrupt. “This one site can produce 5 gigawatts of energy,” Khosla…
Mountaineer Jim Morrison hopped left on his skis, sending trickles of snow down a sheer gully on the North Face of Mount Everest, then he hopped to the right, his breath heavy in the oxygen-thin air.Below him plunged 9,000 feet (2,700 meters) of snow, ice and rock — the most merciless ski run on planet Earth. It had never been skied, until Morrison did it.“It was a spectacular four hours of skiing down a horrific snow pack,” Morrison told The Associated Press Tuesday of his historic Oct. 15 run. Morrison climbed Everest’s notorious North Face through the Hornbein Couloir alongside…
Unthread has a plan for cleaning up Slack and will show off its tech at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025
If every good startup begins with a problem, this one may have begun with a bad Slack conversation. As CEO and co-founder Tom Bachant tells it, he remembers seeing the chaos of Slack-based support — the haphazard ticketing, the jumble of DMs, and little chance for insight into the underlying problems. “The first point was just seeing that Slack was this kind of chaotic beast that needed to be tracked better,” Bachant remembers, “and then seeing that the actual work that’s being requested by these teams could easily be automated.” His new company, Unthread, is the result of that realization.…

As companies push to increase efficiency and stay competitive, they’re encouraging, or in some cases outright requiring, workers to know how to use AI tools.
