Growth-stage fundraising is picking up speed again, but it’s not the same game it used to be. At TechCrunch All Stage 2025 on July 15 in Boston, we’re bringing in someone who knows how the rules have changed and how to win in today’s market: Cathy Gao, partner at Sapphire Ventures. Gao has backed breakout startups like Culture Amp, Gem, Sword Health, and EliseAI. She’s sat on both sides of the table as an investor and operator. At Gusto, she helped scale post–Series B. Now, she’s helping founders cut through the noise and land deals in an increasingly competitive environment.…
Some divides are emerging among swing-state Latinos who voted for President Donald Trump when it comes to his approach to mass deportations, according to new focus group conversations with some of these voters, who nevertheless remain broadly supportive of the president. Most of the Latino Trump voters who participated in recent focus groups observed by NBC News as part of the 2025 Deciders series, produced by Syracuse University and the research firms Engagious and Sago, said they approve of Trump’s handling of illegal immigration. And most approved of his actions broadly as president. These voters were key to Trump’s win…
Startups don’t build themselves. The Builders Stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025, taking place October 27–29 at San Francisco’s Moscone West, is where investors, operators, and founders come to talk tactics — the nitty-gritty of getting something off the ground and making it work. This year, we’re bringing some of the sharpest minds in the game to the stage, including legendary investor Elad Gil, former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo, and Flexport founder Ryan Petersen. If you’re looking for real-world insights from people who’ve actually built and backed category-defining companies, this is where it happens. Whether you’re wrestling with your first term…

St Albans, England CNN — “Naturism is about liberating your body and accepting who you are,” says Stéphane Deschênes, a twinkly-eyed Canadian with an impressive white handlebar mustache. We’re gathered near the hot tub for the opening ceremony at British Naturism: Sunfolk, a 94-year-old naturist site that’s relaunching after a modern makeover. As president of the International Naturist Federation (INF-FNI), Deschênes has traveled 3,000 miles to St Albans, a small historic city…
Over the last several years, fusion power has gone from the butt of jokes — always a decade away! — to an increasingly tangible and tantalizing technology that has drawn investors off the sidelines. The technology may be challenging to master and expensive to build today, but fusion promises to harness the nuclear reaction that powers the sun to generate nearly limitless energy here on Earth. If startups are able to complete commercially viable fusion power plants, then they have the potential to upend trillion-dollar markets. The bullish wave buoying the fusion industry has been driven by three advances: more…

Summer is the season for road trips, when families, couples and groups of friends head out to explore the far reaches of the USA from behind the wheel. Individually owned roadside motels, which once dominated the landscape in the United States, were often the accommodation of choice (and usually the only option) in the middle of the 20th century. Designed specifically for the convenience of travelers taking long-distance automobile trips, these hotels went by several names: motor inn, motor court, motor lodge and motor hotel, which is usually abbreviated to the most popular term, “motel.” Today, these car-friendly establishments, a decidedly…
One of SpaceX’s Starship rockets exploded on a test stand in Texas late on Wednesday night, as the company prepared for the tenth test flight of the heavy-lift rocket system. SpaceX said “all personnel are safe and accounted for” in a post on X, and claimed there are “no hazards to residents in surrounding communities.” The company said in a later update on Thursday that an initial analysis suggests the explosion was caused by a failure of of a “pressurized tank known as a COPV, or composite overwrapped pressure vessel” in the Starship’s nosecone. The enormous explosion caused damage to…
