Facebook Tweet Email Link With a single post, French President Emmanuel Macron changed everything, and nothing at all. His late-evening announcement on X that France will recognize a Palestinian state in September, the first member of the United Nations Security Council and the G7 nations to do so, took many by surprise. Although France’s recognition has been expected for several months now – indeed the brief Israel-Iran war forced a postponement of the summit on Israel-Palestine with Saudi Arabia and European allies that Paris had been shepherding – it was not expected to land like this. The surprise announcement tells…
President Donald Trump’s plan to boost artificial intelligence and build data centers across the U.S. could speed up a building boom that was already expected to strain the nation’s ability to power it.The White House released the “AI Action Plan” Wednesday, vowing to expedite permitting for construction of energy-intensive data centers as it looks to make the country a leader in a business that tech companies and others are pouring billions of dollars into. The plan says to combat “radical climate dogma,” a number of restrictions — including clean air and water laws — could be lifted, aligning with Trump’s…
NEW YORK (AP) — Federal regulators on Thursday approved Paramount’s $8 billion merger with Skydance, clearing the way to close a deal that combined Hollywood glitz with political intrigue. The stamp of approval from the Federal Communications Commission comes after months of turmoil revolving around President Donald Trump’s legal battle with “60 Minutes,” the crown jewel of Paramount-owned broadcast network CBS. With the specter of the Trump administration potentially blocking the hard-fought deal with Skydance, Paramount earlier this month agreed to pay a $16 million settlement with the president.Critics of the settlement lambasted it as a veiled bribe to appease Trump,…

Traffic, crowds, security checkpoints, and flight disruptions can all contribute to increased tension and anxiety among travelers. Now, one North American airport has an unconventional solution for bringing a dose of calm back to its terminals: miniature therapy horses. Canada’s Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has launched a new trial program that introduces two specially trained miniature horses, Magic and Tinkerbell, into the hub’s concourses to provide comfort to passengers. The two miniature ponies, who are 3 and 17 years old, respectively, are joining YVR’s Less Airport Stress Initiative for the summer. The airport’s initiative began bringing ambassador dogs…
Falling EV sales combined with a lower average selling price, less cash from regulatory credits, and a decline in solar and energy storage revenue took a toll on Tesla’s bottom line in the second quarter of 2025. And a 17% growth in revenue in its services business, which includes capital generated from its Supercharging network, wasn’t enough to close the gap. The company reported Wednesday revenue of $22.5 billion, a 12% decline from the same period last year. The company’s Q2 revenue results did show an improvement over the first quarter when it generated $19.3 billion in revenue and did…
A West Virginia judge on Thursday allowed the children of three families in one county to attend school this fall without required vaccinations, the latest move in a showdown between Republican Gov. Patrick Morrisey and the state Board of Education. Raleigh County Circuit Judge Michael Froble issued a preliminary injunction less than a month before the start of the new school year. The ruling involves children whose parents sued and are claiming religious exemptions to a long-standing school vaccine mandate.Morrisey issued an executive order upon taking office allowing such religious exemptions. But the board voted last month to direct public…
Facebook Tweet Email Link Ottawa — Within minutes of starting to read her verdict, the words of Justice Maria Carroccia resonated across Canada as she bluntly assessed that, “I do not find the evidence of E.M. to be either credible or reliable.” Observers in the courtroom reported hearing gasps of both shock and relief, reactions that mirrored those from many in Canada and beyond who have closely followed the troubling and at times, graphic, details of the case. Five hockey players – Michael McLeod, Cal Foote, Carter Hart, Dillon Dube and Alex Formenton – were all acquitted on Thursday, according…
