Medical billing giant Episource is notifying millions of people across the United States that their personal and health information was stolen in a cyberattack earlier this year. The breach affects more than 5.4 million people, according to a listing with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, making it one of the largest healthcare breaches of the year so far.  Episource, owned by health insurance giant UnitedHealth Group’s subsidiary Optum, provides billing adjustment to the doctors, hospitals, and other organizations that work in the healthcare industry. CNN  —  Syria’s military entered a stronghold for the Druze minority in the country’s south on Tuesday to “pursue outlaw groups,” the government said, prompting Israel to launch strikes against the forces dispatched by Damascus. Clashes broke out over the weekend between Druze forces and Bedouin tribes in the southern city of Suwayda, leaving 30 people dead and injuring dozens more. The violence prompted an intervention by the Syrian government, which lost eighteen of its soldiers in the clashes. Meta announced on Monday that it will take additional measures to crack down on accounts sharing “unoriginal” content to Facebook, meaning those that repeatedly reuse someone else’s text, photos, or videos. This year, Meta has already taken down around 10 million profiles that were impersonating large content creators, it said. Plus, it has taken action against 500,000 accounts that were engaged in “spammy behavior or fake engagement.” Those actions have included things like demoting the accounts’ comments and reducing the distribution of their content to prevent the accounts from monetizing. Rome CNN  —  A 46-year-old American man accused of the murders of a 29-year-old woman and her baby has faced a preliminary legal hearing in Rome after being extradited to Italy. The California native, named in an international arrest warrant and by Italian police as Francis Kaufmann, was extradited from Greece over the weekend. Italian police say he previously used an authentic US passport in the name of Rexal Ford and an Italian identity card in the name of Matteo Capozzi. Former Sequoia partner Matt Miller has already locked in $355 million for his new VC firm, Evantic, which is also backed by Sequoia, TechCrunch learned. Last December, Miller announced his departure from Sequoia after 12 years to “start [his] own fund focused on the great founders of Europe.”  Despite the European focus, TechCrunch’s understanding is that Evantic will actually invest on both sides of the Atlantic, with a focus on B2B companies at the Series B and growth stages.
