Facebook Tweet Email Link The Trump administration has declared that it will aggressively combat chronic disease in America. Yet in its feverish purge of federal health programs, it has proposed eliminating the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion and its annual funding of $1.4 billion. That’s one of many disconnects between what the administration says about health — notably, in the “MAHA Report” that President Donald Trump recently presented at the White House — and what it’s actually doing, scientists and public health advocates say. Among other contradictions: The report says more research is needed on health-related…

Founders are often told to chase product-market fit before anything else, but what if scaling too soon, too fast, is what’s really holding them back? At TechCrunch All Stage 2025 on July 15 in Boston, Jon McNeill, CEO and co-founder of DVx Ventures (and former president of Tesla and COO of Lyft), will take the Scale Stage to flip the script on conventional startup growth advice. His session, “The Operator’s Playbook for Building and Scaling Sustainable Companies,” explores why the next generation of enduring companies will be built differently — by operators who validate both product and go-to-market strategy before…

Justin Sullivan | Getty ImagesConstellation Brands’ beer sales fell 2% in its latest quarter as President Donald Trump’s deportations and consumers’ broader economic fears weighed on demand. In April, Constellation CEO Bill Newlands said that Hispanic consumers are spending less due to their concerns about Trump’s hardline immigration policy and possible job losses in industries with high Latino employment bases. During Wednesday’s earnings conference call, Newlands acknowledged that raids by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were making it difficult to…
Rubio hails end of USAID as study says its elimination could contribute to 14 million deaths in next 5 years
CNN — US Secretary of State Marco Rubio hailed the end of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Tuesday as a new analysis found that its demolition could contribute to 14 million deaths in the next five years. “This era of government-sanctioned inefficiency has officially come to an end. Under the Trump Administration, we will finally have a foreign funding mission in America that prioritizes our national interests,” Rubio said in a post on Substack Tuesday. “As of July 1st, USAID will officially cease to implement foreign assistance. Foreign assistance programs that align with administration policies—and which advance American…
Apple’s biggest assembly partner, Foxconn, has ordered more than 300 of its Chinese employees to return home from its iPhone factories in India, Bloomberg reported, citing anonymous sources. The employees told to return account for the bulk of Foxconn’s staff in its iPhone facilities in India, and only Taiwanese support staff remain in the country, the report said. The motivation behind the order was not immediately clear, Bloomberg reported, though the outlet noted that Chinese officials have been asking regulators to curb knowledge and tech resources from being exported to India in a bid to preserve the country’s manufacturing heft.…
NEW YORK (AP) — A politically motivated hacker breached Columbia University’s data systems last week, stealing troves of student documents while briefly shutting down the school’s computer systems, a university official said. The June 24 cyberattack prompted widespread network outages on campus, locking students and staff out of their email accounts, coursework and video conference software for several hours. On the same day, images of President Donald Trump’s smiling face appeared on several public monitors across the Manhattan campus.A spokesperson for Columbia declined to elaborate on the political motivations behind the attack. But they described a highly sophisticated “hacktivist” who had…
CNN — Donald Trump has not been shy about his desire for an end to the war in Gaza. After the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran concluded with a ceasefire, the US president has been pushing hard for a truce between Israel and Hamas, saying he was “looking for it to happen next week,” when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit the White House. Trump announced Tuesday that Israel had “agreed to the necessary conditions” to finalize a 60-day ceasefire. An Israeli official confirmed that the country accepted the latest proposal. On Saturday, Netanyahu will convene his…
LONDON (AP) — Olivia Rodrigo. John Cena. Dave Grohl. Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas. There was as much star power — or maybe even more? — in the Royal Box at Wimbledon as there was down below on the Centre Court grass on Wednesday. And that was on an afternoon that featured two-time defending men’s champion Carlos Alcaraz and No. 1-ranked woman Aryna Sabalenka both winning matches at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament’s main stadium to reach the third round. The seats in the Royal Box behind one of the baselines are by invitation only, and there was quite a list of…
