Cava stock tumbled 16% in afternoon trading on Wednesday, making it the latest fast-casual chain to feel Wall Street’s wrath after reporting disappointing quarterly sales.A year ago, eateries like Chipotle Mexican Grill and Cava were reporting double-digit same-store sales growth, even as the broader restaurant industry posted falling traffic and slumping sales. This spring, fast-casual chains saw foot traffic decline as sales slowed down or even shrank. To explain the downturn, executives have said that diners are “cautious,” in the words of Sweetgreen CEO Jonathan Neman, or dealing with an economic “fog,” according to Cava CFO Tricia…

Apple has rejected Elon Musk’s accusations that its App Store is biased against AI apps that compete with OpenAI.  “We feature thousands of apps through charts, algorithmic recommendations and curated lists selected by experts using objective criteria,” the BBC quoted Apple as saying. The response comes after Musk threatened to sue Apple via xAI, claiming the iPhone maker was “behaving in a manner that makes it impossible for any AI company besides OpenAI to reach #1 in the App Store.” Apple and OpenAI entered a partnership last year to integrate the AI company’s models and ChatGPT into Apple products, like Siri…

Facebook Tweet Email Link European leaders urged US President Donald Trump on Wednesday not to strike a unilateral Ukraine peace deal with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during their one-on-one meeting later this week in Alaska. Spike Lee’s “Highest 2 Lowest” takes some time to find its groove. But once it does, when the film leaves the high rises and puts its feet on the New York pavement, it really sings.A reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime thriller “High and Low,” Lee brings the story to a modern-day New York where a music mogul, played by Denzel Washington, is faced with a moral dilemma: Save a kidnapped kid or his flagging empire. Both will cost nearly everything he has.We toss around the term “auteur” pretty casually these days. It’s become almost a shorthand for any filmmaker…

For an app all about spilling the beans on who you’re allegedly dating, it’s ironic that TeaOnHer was spilling the personal information of thousands of its users to the open web. TeaOnHer was designed for men to share photos and information about women they claim to have been dating. But much like Tea, the dating-gossip app for women it was trying to replicate, TeaOnHer had gaping holes in its security that exposed its users’ personal information, including photos of their driver’s licenses and other government-issued identity documents, as TechCrunch reported last week. These gated community-like apps were created ostensibly to…

India’s national carrier is suspending one of its routes to a major U.S. city. Air India said on Monday that it would suspend its route from Delhi to Washington, D.C., effective September 1, amid “increased operational complexity.” The suspension is due in part to a shortage of aircraft as the airline begins to update its fleet. Air India began retrofitting 26 of its Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner planes in July. The retrofit program means that multiple 787-8 planes will be out of commission for renovations at any given time, through the end of 2026. Air India is planning extensive upgrades to the jets…
