SAN DIEGO (AP) — George Lucas is finally coming to the stage at Comic-Con. And while “Star Wars” is sure to get a mention, the 81-year-old is making his debut appearance at the San Diego pop cultural extravaganza for a more earthbound reason: a preview of his long-in-the-works Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles. The Sunday panel discussion in Comic-Con’s vaunted Hall H will act as a relatively quiet closing act to the four-day festival that brought its usual series of big, bombastic looks at upcoming sci-fi and superhero projects. The museum-centered session is also meant to be…
Israel’s far-right national security minister denounced the government’s decision to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza, calling it “a surrender to Hamas” and saying he was excluded from the deliberations. “On Saturday night, I was informed by a source in the Prime Minister’s Office that during Shabbat a security consultation took place without me,” Itamar Ben-Gvir wrote Saturday night on social media. Shabbat is the Jewish day of rest, which falls on a Saturday. During Shabbat, observant Jews normally refrain from work, outside of emergencies. “They know very well that, as Minister of National Security, I am available on Shabbat for…
Facebook Tweet Email Link Walls, tall and deadly, line three sides of Gaza. On the fourth lies the sea, stretching out to the horizon. Its waters, and the fish within them, have long nourished Gazans isolated from the outside world. Today, its beaches offer no respite and little shelter for the displaced, with the fishermen that once plied the shores now banned from the Mediterranean, stripping people of another desperately-needed food source. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reiterated a security order banning Gazans from even swimming off the coast earlier this month. And, as Israeli forces patrol the shore with…
SAN DIEGO (AP) — A few things have changed for the stars of “Lilo & Stitch” since the movie became the breakout hit of 2025.For 8-year-old star Maia Kealoha, it’s meant no more Doritos – she’s learned she has to keep her teeth clean, especially when doing interviews.Kealoha, Sydney Agudong and Tia Carrere have been doing lots of those, taking a victory lap with “Lilo & Stitch” at Comic-Con 2025 and promoting the film’s release for digital purchase.Another change? Kealoha says with a big grin that she’s been recognized at stores “like five thousand times.”Agudong says the movie “an ode…
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Comic-Con got a lot of Ryan and a little bit of Rocky at a panel on “Project: Hail Mary,” the forthcoming film that’s equal parts space adventure, real-science deep-dive, broad comedy and relationship drama.“What’s up Hall H!” a giddy Ryan Gosling in a trucker hat and flannel shirt shouted to the crowd of more than 6,000 at Comic-Con’s biggest venue.Amazon MGM Studios showed the opening five minutes and several other slightly unfinished scenes from the first third of the film, seven months before its planned release. (Spoilers for that section follow). It included an extended glimpse at…
Facebook Tweet Email Link Israeli forces intercepted the Handala, a Gaza-bound ship carrying aid and activists, within 70 nautical miles of its intended destination on Saturday night. “The occupation has disabled our cameras and all communication has been lost,” a spokesperson for the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) told CNN in a message. A YouTube livestream showed armed personnel boarding the ship, while the activists on the deck, all wearing life jackets, held their hands in the air in surrender. One of the helmeted personnel appears to manipulate the camera streaming on the deck, turning it around. The stream ended soon…
A U.K. law requiring that pornography websites verify the age of their users took effect Friday. The BBC reports that around 6,000 porn sites have said they will start verifying users’ ages to comply with the Online Safety Act, although at least one major site was not requiring age checks as of Friday morning. The law also requires that online platforms prevent children from being exposed to harmful content, which is why sites like Reddit, Bluesky, X, and Grindr have also begun asking users in the U.K. to verify their age through means including selfies or government-issued IDs. This is…

Facebook Tweet Email Link The leaders of Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to meet for ceasefire talks after days of cross-border violence, according to statements on Saturday from both sides as well as US President Donald Trump. Trump said earlier in the weekend that he had spoken with both Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and acting prime minister of Thailand Phumtham Wechayachai in his efforts to restore peace. “They have agreed to immediately meet and quickly work out a Ceasefire and, ultimately, PEACE!” Trump wrote on Truth Social in a series of posts on outlining his diplomatic efforts on Saturday.…
After spending the past week-plus in the headlines due to a seemingly inescapable social media scandal, data operations startup Astronomer is trying to shift the narrative with a tongue-in-cheek video starring actress and entrepreneur Gwyneth Paltrow. Paltrow was, of course, previously married to Coldplay singer Chris Martin. And it was at a Coldplay concert in Massachusetts that the company’s CEO Andy Byron and Chief People Officer Kristin Cabot were apparently caught dancing together on the “kiss cam.” When Byron and Cabot (who are reportedly married to other people) awkwardly tried to hide from the camera, Martin joked, “Either they’re having…
