During the first few months of the new Trump administration, the White House slashed cybersecurity budgets, staff, and initiatives. And some, including cybersecurity experts and legislators, are not happy about it. One of them is Colin Ahern, the chief cyber officer for the state of New York. In a recent interview with TechCrunch, Ahern said that both he and New York Governor Kathy Hochul are worried that the Trump administration’s cuts to cybersecurity are putting the country at risk. “We work with the federal government day in and day out. We need and want the federal government to be effective,”…

The rains intensified around the Chinese capital on Monday, killing 28 people in Miyun, an outlying mountainous district in the northeast; another two were killed in Yangqing, another northern district, China’s state broadcaster CCTV reported. Anthropic says its rolling out new weekly rate limits for Claude to curb usage among subscribers who are running its AI coding tool, Claude Code, “continuously in the background, 24/7.” Anthropic says the rate limits also aim to stop a handful of users who are violating Claude’s usage policy by sharing accounts and reselling access to Claude Code. The new rate limits will go into effect August 28 for subscribers to Anthropic’s $20-per-month Pro plan, as well as its $100- and $200-per-month Max plans, the company said Monday in an email to subscribers and a post on X. SMIMOU, Morocco (AP) — Argan oil runs through your fingers like liquid gold — hydrating, luscious, and restorative. Prized worldwide as a miracle cosmetic, it’s more than that in Morocco. It’s a lifeline for rural women and a byproduct of a forest slowly buckling under the weight of growing demand. To make it, women crouch over stone mills and grind down kernels. One kilogram — roughly two days of work — earns them around $3, enough for a modest foothold in an economy where opportunities are scarce. It also links them to generations past.“We were born and raised here. These traditions…
With demand for AI-powered browsers on the rise, Microsoft on Monday launched a new feature in its Edge browser called Copilot Mode, which allows users to browse the web while being assisted by AI. The idea is that the AI can become a helper that can understand what the user is researching, predict what they want to do, and then take action on their behalf. How well it works in practice remains to be seen, but Microsoft notes that Copilot Mode is still considered an experimental feature. It’s also opt-in by default during these tests and is currently free for…

Facebook Tweet Email Link If his latest remarks are anything to go by, US President Donald Trump’s loss of patience with the Kremlin appears to be gathering pace. Speaking from his golf resort in Turnberry, Scotland, alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump unexpectedly shortened his own 50-day deadline on Moscow, imposed two weeks ago, to agree a peace deal with Ukraine or face tough new economic sanctions. “Yeah, I’m going to make a new deadline of about 10 or 12 days from today,” Trump told reporters on Monday. “There’s no reason in waiting. I want to be generous but…

Two years ago, logistics company Flexport bought the assets of Convoy, a former freight tech unicorn that had closed up shop. Now it’s sold that platform and delivered a “massive return on investment for Flexport.” Flexport announced the sale on Monday to DAT Freight & Analytics but declined to disclose terms. “Over the past 18 months, we rebuilt and relaunched the [Convoy] platform as a neutral digital freight execution layer that serves brokers, carriers, and shippers across the market,” Flexport founder and CEO Ryan Petersen said in a statement. “That investment paid off. The platform is now stronger, more widely…
