At least one cruise guest was injured after a waterslide malfunctioned aboard Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas on Thursday.
Photos and video posted to social media showed a large chunk of one of the slide’s acrylic glass panels broken off, with water falling to the deck below.
“Our team provided medical care to an adult guest when acrylic glass broke off a water slide as the guest passed through the slide,” a Royal Caribbean Group spokesperson told ABC News. “The guest is being treated for his injuries.”
According to the news outlet, the guest’s condition is stable. However, specific injuries are unknown.
Royal Caribbean has closed the ride for the time being while it investigates what went wrong.
Icon of the Seas, which made its debut just last year, is currently sailing a seven-day round-trip eastern Caribbean itinerary from Miami and is scheduled to return to South Florida on Saturday.
