An inebriated British couple in their thirties were arrested upon landing in Alicante, Spain after they caused a disturbance mid-flight by announcing to the full flight they were “joining the mile high club,” then went into one of the airplane’s lavatories to fulfill their announcement.
The incident happened on the night of August 15. The flight, operated by EasyJet, left from Luton airport in the United Kingdom.
According to British outlet Express, cabin stewards tried to calm the rowdy couple down before they entered the lavatory, when the woman demanded more alcoholic drinks from the flight attendants. The flight attendant allegedly suggested coffee instead, which upset the woman, who announced she was going to be sick and ran for the lavatory.
Then they announced their intentions, and according to passenger reports, once the couple entered the lavatory, it seemed they were doing what they intended, much to everyone’s horror. Passenger reports also note there were many families with children onboard.
A stewardess reported the incident to the captain, who called the authorities. The Guardia Civil met the plane upon arrival and arrested the drunk couple.
An EasyJet spokesperson told the Express: “We can confirm that flight EZY2317 from Luton to Alicante on August 8 was met by police upon landing in Alicante due to some passengers behaving disruptively onboard.”
Spain has long been a beloved warm-weather escape for Brits, but in recent years, the country has been fed up with droves of tourists, especially of the drunk sort. Some destinations within Spain are imposing restrictions or heavier penalties on drunk behavior to try and curb this type of behavior.
