Fliers in the United States will soon have another opportunity to fly one of the most loved airline seats in the sky.
Emirates has announced it will bring its premium economy cabin to a new route later this month. Starting July 18, the carrier will launch premium economy seats to Kolkata, India, which will be the fourth destination in India to be served by the airline’s newest cabin.
For American passengers, the plush but affordable cabin will be available to fly to Kolkata via Dubai from all of Emirates’ 10 U.S. gateway premium economy cities, which includes hubs such as New York, Boston, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Seattle.
The new premium economy seats are now open for booking on board the airline’s Boeing 777 jets. Emirates flight EK572 will depart Dubai at 1:05 p.m. and arrive in Kolkata at 7:15 p.m., while on the west-bound leg, flight EK573 will depart Kolkata at 8:45 p.m. and arrive in Dubai at 12:05 a.m. Flights will operate four times per week on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
“We are delighted to introduce our highly-acclaimed Premium Economy experience to Kolkata, marking another significant milestone in our commitment to the Indian market,” said Mohammad Sarhan, Emirates’ VP of India and Nepal. “The response to our Premium Economy product in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are confident that travellers in Kolkata will appreciate the blend of comfort, value, and thoughtful touches that make Emirates’ Premium Economy stand out.”
Since it launched in 2022, Emirates’ premium economy cabin has been popular with passengers for its comfortable seats upholstered in cream-colored leather, which are wider and have a deeper recline than regular economy. The seats also offer increased leg room as well as cushioned leg rests and adjustable headrests. On board the Boeing 777 planes, there are only 24 seats in the cabin. Additional perks include 13.3-inch entertainment screens with Bluetooth connectivity at each seat, enhanced dining menus served on Royal Doulton fine china with real cutlery, a premium wine list, and additional allowances for checked and carry-on bags.
Emirates was named the world’s best premium economy in 2025 by AirlineRatings.com, in a tie for first place with Australian carrier Qantas’ cabin.
