Budget travelers can add an array of upgrades and perks to their next low-cost flight with Frontier Airlines’ newest status challenge.
Passengers who complete the ultra-low-cost carrier’s challenge will be awarded Elite Platinum Status through the end of 2026.
In order to score Platinum Status, travelers must enroll in the challenge, pay a flat fee of $99, and earn 12,500 Elite Status Points within 90 days. It usually takes at least 50,000 points to achieve the platinum-level tier, so the challenge is a shortcut way of unlocking elite benefits for the next year.
The top-tier status comes with solid perks, like priority boarding, a free checked bag and a free carry-on for everyone on the booking, complimentary premium seat selection with upgrades to larger UpFront seats 12 hours before departure, and unlimited companion travel, which comes with the ability to choose a new companion for every flight.
Starting in 2026, Platinum Status customers will also have access to free upgrades to the airline’s new first class seats.
“Platinum Status delivers incredible value, flexibility, and comfort for our most loyal travelers,” said Bobby Schroeter, Frontier’s chief commercial officer. “From unlimited companion travel to free bags, upgrades to premium seating, and now upcoming eligibility for First Class upgrades in 2026, the Platinum Challenge is an extraordinary opportunity at a fraction of the normal requirement.”
Members of Frontier’s loyalty program can earn 10x points on every $1 spent on Frontier purchases made on the airline’s website or mobile app, including fares, bags, and bundles. Using that earning rate alone, travelers would need to spend $1,250 in flights and add-ons over the next three months to earn Platinum Status.
That number might sound a little steep, but considering it’s already time to book holiday flights for November and December travel, many passengers will be able to easily meet that spending threshold.
For those with the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard, they can also earn 1x point per $1 spent on every purchase made with the credit card.
Travelers can learn more about the status challenge and register on Frontier’s website.
