G Adventures and Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) have joined forces to produce a new digital series of content that shines a light on how sustainable tourism can create a positive impact for both travelers and destinations.
The new series, titled “Travel Redefined: Tourism for People and Planet,” showcases everything from rewilded coastlines to carbon-free cities to illustrate how travel can
help protect the planet and empower communities.
The series also includes two installments that highlight the transformative power of community tourism. These two dispatches follow G Adventures founder, Bruce Poon Tip, on an emotional journey back to the Ecuadorian Amazon. There he visits with an Indigenous family who hosted G Adventures’ very first trips 35 years ago.
The Amazon journey was designed to illustrate G Adventures’ long-term commitment to community partnerships and the profound impact that responsible tourism can have when implemented thoughtfully and sustainably from the very beginning of a company’s journey.
Community tourism has been woven into the G Adventures responsible business model since the company’s first trips back in 1990.
“Community tourism is about including everyone in the tourism supply chain and everyone benefitting as tourism grows in these countries,” Poon Tip said in a statement.
The thought leadership discussion led by Poon Tip in the series explores the principles and practice of community tourism, examining how meaningful cultural exchange can benefit both travelers and host communities while preserving local traditions and creating economic opportunities.
“Travel is a privilege. There’s very few people on the planet who get to travel, and with that privilege comes great responsibility,” Poon Tip added. “It’s a beautiful thing when you decide to go on holiday and your holiday can be an amazing form of giving back and can transform lives and lift people out of poverty.”
Produced in collaboration with strategic content creator Content With
Purpose, the new series is being released as G Adventures marks its
35th anniversary year.
The series will be available for viewing across GSTC’s global platforms and is available to view here.
