The holidays are inevitably a costly time of year, so if you’re looking for ways to reign in your budget (where possible), keep reading.
A new report from Dollar Flight Club says holiday airfare is the lowest it has been since 2022. In fact, the cost for some routes during the Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Year travel windows has plummeted as much as 40 percent in some places, according to Dollar Flight Club’s holiday travel report.
This revelation is based on an analysis of 250 high-volume holiday routes spanning more than 80 airports and 40 U.S. origin metros.
According to this review, domestic median prices for the 2025 holiday travel season are an average of 19 percent lower then ticket prices were the previous three years (2022-2024).
International tickets are also more budget-friendly this year, with costs down 9 percent.
Scoring these types of discount prices, however, often requires being flexible with your travel day or making an airport swap. Tweaking either of these factors has the potential to save you as much 30 percent, says the report.
As for where the biggest deals are happening, the Dollar Flight Club report indicates that Florida and Mexico offer the most significant price drops for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
For example, Miami is as low as: $98 roundtrip, which is 36–41 percent lower then the cost of holiday tickets last year. But the domestic destination with the absolute lowest prices, according to Dollar Flight Club data, appears to be Orlando, Florida. Round-trip tickets to this Florida city can be found for just $38–$142 (Houston to Orlando from $38), which is 40 percent lower than last year.
The report says the massive decline in ticket prices to Orlando is due to significant seat growth and competition among carriers serving the city. Side note: If you want to actually score 40 percent off the cost of your ticket, Dollar Flight Club recommends booking 4–6 weeks ahead of time, while also looking for mid-week flights that often undercut weekend fares.
Jetting off to Cancun meanwhile, is as low as $206 round-trip, or 29 percent lower vs last year. There are other international deals available, as well. For instance, tickets from LA and NYC to Rome are as low as $297–$401 round-trip; which is 30 percent lower than 2024.
