Travelers looking
to unwind, reset and reconnect will soon have a new reason to visit Indonesia.
This November, the Ministry of Tourism is launching the Wonderful
Indonesia Wellness Festival 2025, a month-long celebration of the country’s
rich healing traditions, ancient wisdom and holistic practices — all set amid
the cultural heart of Java in Surakarta and Yogyakarta.
“Wonderful
Indonesia Wellness marks the beginning of our effort to introduce the
authenticity of Indonesia’s wellness culture to the world. Through this
initiative, we want to emphasize that Indonesian tourism is not only beautiful
— it is also healing, calming and rejuvenating,” said Widyanti Putri, Minister
of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia.
The festival
represents Indonesia’s growing recognition as a leader in the global wellness
economy, fueled by practices that have been passed down through generations —
from traditional herbal remedies and nourishing cuisine to spa rituals and
meditation.
The inaugural 2025
program will combine two major regional festivals that showcase the diverse
expressions of wellness across Java:
The Royal
Surakarta Wellness Festival (RSWF), hosted by the Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat,
runs November 1–23. Inspired by classical Javanese manuscripts, it brings
ancient wisdom to life through immersive workshops on Javanese etiquette,
gamelan music therapy, royal dance, herbal tonics and meditative palace walks.
Meanwhile, the Jogja
Cultural Wellness Festival (JCWF) will take place throughout the month, from November
1–30 in Yogyakarta, known for its community-led approach to well-being. The
festival blends wellness with social connection through free yoga sessions,
journaling groups, jamu (traditional herbal drink) workshops, healthy cooking
experiences, meditation at historical sites, and even community activities like
tree planting and neighborhood clean-ups.
Together, the twin
festivals deliver a complete wellness experience right in the heart of
Indonesia’s rich cultural landscape. Restore your mind and body through
time-honored holistic practices, all set against breathtaking historic
surroundings. It’s an opportunity to find balance and reconnect with yourself,
where tradition, culture and inner calm seamlessly merge.
And travel between
the pair of festivals is highly convenient for attendees, since Surakarta and
Yogyakarta are just an hour apart by car or shuttle. Both cities are also readily
accessible via connecting flights from the capital city of Jakarta.
