A Carnival Cruise Line passenger who went missing during a stop in Bonaire appears to have “taken deliberate action to be alone and on her own,” according to the cruise line.
Jessica Collins, a 47-year-old American passenger on Carnival Horizon, did not return to the ship on September 17.
According to a statement shared with USA Today, she departed the vessel with her belongings in her backpack, leaving a cash tip and a thank you note behind for the stateroom attendant.
“The guest subsequently texted a member of our Care Team who had been trying to reach her saying she was safe and did not want to be found or contacted again,” the cruise line said in the statement.
Meanwhile, authorities with the Public Entity of Bonaire, the Port Authority, Tourism Corporation Bonaire and other partners are hoping to find Collins “quickly and safely,” according to a government statement.
