The TSA saw the busiest day ever in its 23-year history on November 30.
The agency says it screened more than 3.1 million travelers on the Sunday after Thanksgiving 2025, which is traditionally one of the busiest travel days during the holiday period.
At airports across the country, TSA says it screened “about 3,133,924 individuals” on November 30, as travelers made their way home following the long holiday weekend. The agency says that its top 10 busiest days are now all above 3 million travelers.
Eight out of the top 10 busiest days for TSA all took place during 2025, with major travel days surrounding this year’s summer federal holidays like Memorial Day, Juneteenth, and Fourth of July ranking among the record-breaking screening days.
Also ranking on the TSA’s top 10 busiest days list was October 10, which was the Friday before Columbus Day 2025.
Although the December holiday travel period is extremely busy at airports as well, the travel window around Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year’s tends to be longer, with traveler numbers less concentrated on specific days.
Even though December’s travel rush might not rank among the TSA’s top 10 days, travelers should still be prepared for crowds at the airport. Be prepared by arriving at least two hours before departure time for domestic flights and remember your Real ID.
