Disney California Adventure Park (DCA)
kicked off its annual Lunar New Year
celebration on Jan. 23 for the Year of the Horse.
The 31-day celebration, which runs until Feb. 22, is an
homage to Southern California’s Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese local
communities, complete with meetings with outfitted characters, festive
decorations, exclusive merchandise, a calligraphy experience, Mulan’s Lunar New
Year Procession and “Hurry Home – A Lunar New Year Celebration.”
But perhaps most notably, the event doubles as a food
festival featuring Asian favorites, fusion creations, decadent desserts, and
festive beverages to sample throughout the park.
“Our culinary teams travel, and they bring it back here,”
said Juan Aldava, a spokesperson for Disneyland Resort. “So, if you are coming
from Korea or China, the sounds and sights are all authentic.”
All the New Food
This year, DCA’s Lunar New Year is offering 35 new culinary items,
including returning favorites such as the Quesabirria Eggroll with guajillo
pepper consome.
The most devoted foodies will purchase the $49 Sip and Savor
Pass (https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/disney-california-adventure/sip-and-savor/)
at the Sip and Savor Cart when entering the park, which provides access to six
of the items on sale at the pop-up Lunar New Year marketplaces. These six marketplaces
are located along Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession route, from Hollywoodland
to Paradise Gardens Park, which serves as the main location for Lunar New Year
music, character meetings and more.
Guests using the Sip and Savor Pass can place an order for
all six items at once, even if the items are from different vendors. Since
order lines can be long, this reduces waiting time. It should be noted that the
pass does not cover alcohol, and many of the new items are alcoholic beverages
— including cocktail and beer flights.
