It turns out even flight attendants can get frustrated with a lack of quality customer service in airport terminals.
That’s the takeaway from a video going viral on social media showing a cabin crew member who appears to be in a Delta Air Lines uniform scolding a gate agent who works for Southwest Airlines at Atlanta Airport (ATL).
In the video, which was first covered by aviation blog View From the Wing, the flight attendant yells at the Southwest gate agent for a lack of professionalism, telling her to “clean it up.”
The flight attendant appears to have flown with Southwest as a non-revenue customer. It’s a common practice and courtesy in the airline industry for crew to commute to the airport where the flight they’re working is taking off by flying for free with another airline.
It’s not clear from the video what exactly started the altercation, but the flight attendant tells the gate agent that “this is the worst airport,” and that its “customer service is ridiculous,” before the confrontation escalates and the flight attendant starts raising his voice and insulting the gate agent.
Commenters and bloggers are split over who is the offending party. Some social media users were quick to point out that customer service in Atlanta’s airport can be sorely lacking, while others noted that no airline employee should lose their cool in front of travelers while in uniform.
No matter what your thoughts are on the flight attendants’ behavior, one thing is for sure: modern air travel has become pretty stressful for most passengers, even if they work in the industry themselves.
