No time machine? No problem. You can travel back to the year 1896 with HX Expeditions.
The company is celebrating its 130th anniversary with a new “1896 Cabin,” a meticulously recreated late 19th-century expedition cabin featuring handcrafted period furnishings, authentic scents and curated touches.
Created by AROS Marine, the cabin will debut aboard MS Fridtjof Nansen on January 29, 2026, and will be available throughout the year. It will be available as an exclusive add-on to any voyage for €450 per night (single or double occupancy). The cabin will be available for one night per guest per sailing.
Half of all profits will be donated to the HX Foundation, supporting the fleet-wide anniversary fundraising goal of £130,000.
“The 1896 Cabin is a chance for our guests to not just see history, but to live and sleep in it,” says Gebhard Rainer, chief executive officer of HX. “As we celebrate 130 years of pioneering journeys, we wanted to create an experience that is immersive, atmospheric and meaningful—connecting our guests to our amazing heritage while helping fund the future of exploration and conservation through the HX Foundation.”
Also during the anniversary year, HX will transport a barrel of fortified Zweigelt wine from the Regele winery in Austria. The barrel will travel across the entire HX fleet, passing from one ship to another and traveling from pole-to-pole. In late May 2027, the wine will be bottled and unveiled as a limited-edition anniversary vintage.
